Social Media Account Safety
In compliance with UC Davis Social Media policy, every social media account associated with ASUCD must be created using a UC Davis email that is only accessible to career staff. Students may still have access to the social media login credentials, but students may not have access to the email inbox associated with the social media account. This measure aims to protect accounts from being stolen or misused. ASUCD Career Staff will keep a log of every ASUCD social media email login to help keep your account more secure.
Keeping an accurate log of ASUCD social media email logins is vital to keeping your accounts secure and up-to-date. In recent years, several ASUCD social media accounts have been lost or are no longer accessible due to lost passwords. Upon graduating from UC Davis, students may forget to pass down passwords and other account information. When new leadership takes over, they do not have the information needed to take over the account. When this happens, it poses a few major problems:
- Now there is an empty ASUCD account on the web, with no way to recover it or keep the information up-to-date.
- We cannot create a new account, because it would create a duplicate leading to confusion for our students.
- Lost accounts can lead to thousands of students missing out on important information regarding ASUCD resources or services they were counting on.
To mitigate this risk, ASUCD Career Staff will maintain a secure database of all usernames and emails for every ASUCD social media accounts. We also ask that the password for every ASUCD social media accounts be reset at the end of each year. It is also very important to update contact information at the end of each year, now that many social media platforms require two-factor authentication using a phone number. Students and employees should be removed immediately as administrators from accounts when their position with ASUCD ends. This is our way of keeping your accounts safe and secure. Note: ASUCD Career Staff will not be posting any content on your Social Media Channels or engaging with your followers.
