Social Media Training and Compliance
Social Media Training and Orientation
To ensure all units are equipped to manage ASUCD’s digital content, ASUCD and Creative Media provide training at the start of the academic year. During the mandatory Fall and Spring ASUCD orientations, the ASUCD Marketing Director provides training on brand identity, social media guidelines, and digital accessibility. Additionally, Creative Media hosts specialized Marketing and Design Workshops to provide a deep dives into branding policy and strategy. Any ASUCD supervisors (ex: unit directors, commission chairs, president, etc.) who is unable to attend these scheduled sessions is required to proactively contact Creative Media to schedule a meeting to review the training materials.
Leadership Responsibility
ASUCD supervisors (ex: unit directors, commission chairs, president, etc.) serve as the primary point of accountability for their organization’s digital presence. It is the expectation of ASUCD that supervisors will relay all training materials, brand guidelines, and accessibility requirements to every staff member or volunteer with social media access. If a supervisor feels their team requires further instruction, they should request a dedicated team training session from Creative Media. Regardless of who creates the content, ASUCD supervisors are ultimately responsible for all posts published to their organization’s official accounts.
Social Media Compliance
All social media content must be reviewed and approved by the organization’s supervisor (ex: unit directors, commission chairs, president, etc.) prior to publication. All content must align with ASUCD and UC Davis brand guidelines, social media policies, and accessibility standards. To streamline this process, ASUCD may implement centralized social media management tools (e.g., Loomly or Hootsuite) to formalize post-approval workflows.
Creative Media staff will regularly monitor ASUCD social media channels for policy compliance. If a post is identified as non-compliant, Creative Media will notify the respective supervisor via email. Supervisors are expected to acknowledge and address these requests in a timely manner.
Non-compliance posts will be addressed through a graduated enforcement framework. This approach is designed to support student learning and provide opportunities for correction; however, it ensures consistent application of policy across all ASUCD units. Continued or significant non-compliance will result in the administrative actions outlined in the Compliance and Accountability Statement below.
Compliance and Accountability Statement
Adherence to the ASUCD Social Media Policy is mandatory for all ASUCD organizations, employees, and volunteers. All accounts officially representing ASUCD are subject to these guidelines to ensure alignment with university standards and state law. Failure to comply with these guidelines may result in administrative action, including but not limited to, the mandatory removal of non-compliant content or the temporary suspension of account privileges. Major infractions and repeated violations may result in more severe consequences. These include, but are not limited to, referral to the Office of Student Conduct and Integrity (OSCI) or termination of employment/volunteer status within ASUCD.
